”Training Christian Workers for Christian Ministry…”
- this mission has been the heart of this school for almost 32 years
now.
Situated in the Island of Mindoro, Philippines, the school's mission was
to raise, train and develop lay leaders and workers for the increasing
demands of the growing number of church in the Island.
It started in 1979, when passionate foreign missionaries saw the need for leadership
development awaiting the growing number of churches. Led by the Spirit
and the willingness of the new born churches, the Mindoro Bible Training
and Conference Center (MBTCC) was instituted. But the name was too long
and too hard to remember. In 1980, the name was changed to Mindoro
Bible Center. Together with that new name a building was built. In that
building was a small dormitory, a kitchen and a library that also served
as a classroom.
Regular summer classes for lay-leaders were conducted and it purposely became
the center of Christian camping and conferences.
Initiated by the churches for their longing to be led by a Pastor,
Mindoro Bible Center was developed into a full-time Bible School to
equip Pastors and full-time workers. On July 10, 1991, the Mindoro Bible
Center became the Dalubhasaan Ng Biblia Sa Mindoro (equivalent to
University of Bible In Mindoro) offering 4-year bachelor courses, but
the name Dalubhasaan Ng Biblia Sa Mindoro was soon changed to Mindoro
Bible College (MBC) in 1993.
MBC was able to realize the longing of the
churches to provide pastors and full-time workers. Searching for the institution's progressive development, Mindoro Bible College aims to
equip Servant Leaders for community transformation. In 2010-2011 the
school was named “The Community Bible School,” but was soon changed to
CENTER FOR SERVANT LEADERSHIP– PHILIPPINES (CSLP) the new name of
Mindoro Bible College as God refreshes His call upon this institution.
This time, the inspired community reduced and changed the curriculum
into a two-year study as it opened its doors to college graduates from
other schools who desire to know and experience community and servant
leadership. CSLP's aim now is “to model authentic community that develops
Servant Leaders who are equipped for holistic Christian Ministry.” This
call is inspired by the life, mind, and walks of the Lord Jesus Christ.
There are three great truths the students need to experience within the
four semester period. First is life in an authentic community. Second,
the life of a Servant Leader. Third is by becoming a gift to the
community through holistic ministries. Attaining these experiences, a
training philosophy of putting the mind of Christ through inner and
outer journey of action and reflection in the context of loving
community is practiced.
Currently, CSLP has 28 regular students from different
regions in the Philippines such as Mindanao, Bicol, Baguio City, Quezon
Province, Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro. Diverse in culture,
yet made one in a community. The CSLP's new system of operation is
values based. We are gradually replacing rules and regulations with core
values of Love, Truth and Transparency, Honor, Trust and Safety,
Brokenness, Forgiveness, and Accountability to Growth and Purpose.
Shared leadership is practiced in the community by having no one be on
top of the other and considering each one as co-servants. The five
devoted faculty and five dedicated staff model these values to set an
example for the community as a whole. CSLP's call is the desire and
heart for authentic community, transforming lives and communities by
helping students and other people grow within the community, and more
likely become servant themselves.
