LEARNING PHILOSOPHY
The Center for Servant Leadership Philippines provides two unique educational programs centered around the following
learning philosophy: Putting on the mind of Christ through an
inner and outer journey of action and reflection in the context of a
loving community.
As a result of this approach and philosophy, the learning atmosphere at
CSLP is quite different from many traditional educational institutions. Students
and faculty at CSLP learn together through a highly interactive, experiential,
community-based approach to learning. A very important part of this
is providing a safe, loving community for students, where they are not judged, where
their potential is imagined, where their brokenness is valued, and where
they are free to share their struggles and their unique story.
DIPLOMA IN HOLISTIC CHRISTIAN MINISTRY PROGRAM
The Diploma in Holistic Christian Ministry Program is a 1 to 3 year program
that provides comprehensive servant leadership training for current and
potential Christian leaders in church, business, non-profits and government.
This program is for college graduates or current leaders. The length of
the program depends on a student's educational background and experience. Current pastors
may take the program in one year by choosing not to take the Biblical and theological
components.
The program includes subjects that are part of the following six tracks of learning:
1. Daily Time with God. Each day, every member of the CSLP community
participates in an individual, guided time of Bible study, prayer, reflection and journaling,
to model the importance of daily quiet times for listening, prayer and reflection in the life
of a leader.
2. Community. Regular, extensive time is spent together as a community,
sharing openly about victories and struggles. A safe community
without judgment allows for healing times of mutual confession and
accountability.
3. Bible. A variety of Bible and theology subjects are taught to help
students put on the mind of Christ through the study and practice of God's Word.
4. Inner Journey. Courses taught as part of the Inner Journey track help
students to grow in their self awareness and in their understanding of God's unique call on their life
as servant leaders.
5. Outer Journey. As part of this track, students
live out what they are learning in the classroom by walking with
marginalized people in surrounding communities. This track helps
students to ponder deeply the meaning of sharing Christ's love and
compassion with others through holistic service.
6. Skills. This track offers a variety of courses
that help students to gain the necessary skills for leadership in local
churches and communities.
SERVANT LEADERSHIP SCHOOL PROGRAM
The Servant Leadership School (or SLS) is an intensive 3-week program
that exposes participants to some of the key concepts of the larger
Diploma in Holistic Christian Ministry program. The SLS, held in April each year,
models an authentic, safe community where each person can consider their personal
calling. A vital component of the SLS is the opportunity
for each participant to share their life story, revealing the incredible value and unique
purpose of each person.
In this context, the SLS works through the following six learning modules:
1. Life of the Beloved — This module helps participants to see
themselves and others through God’s eyes of love. Using Henri Nouwen’s book,
participants see how each person is uniquely chosen, blessed, broken and given
to a unique ministry in God’s family.
2. The Enneagram — Using the "Enneagram" personality system,
participants learn that their personality is a unique expression of God’s
divine image. This system further helps participants to uncover addictive
behaviors that mask their true, beautiful self.
3. In the Name of Jesus — This module helps participants to
uncover the leadership temptations of being relevant, spectacular and powerful
- the same temptations faced by Jesus himself.
4. Servant as Leader — This module further shares the truth
that Christian leaders are called to be servants — servants that build
empowering, life-giving communities.
5. The Dream of God — Participants ponder God’s Dream for
his children to live out the values of his Kingdom in their families, churches
and in their surrounding communities.
6. Mission Statements — Participants develop their own personal
mission statement as they find their own unique calling — a calling that comes
out of their pain, their brokenness, their talents, their gifts and their
personality.
